Success Report/Reference List 2007 Jackson Hole Outfitters email Jackson Hole Outfitters, PO Box 3209, Alpine, Wyoming 83128 (307) 654-7008 In keeping with our policy of providing a complete reference list of all hunters who hunt with us each year, listed below is every hunter, along with a brief report on his/her success or lack thereof. This will enable you to get a feel for how the hunt went and you can call unsuccessful hunters as well as the ones that scored. If you call, please be brief to respect their privacy. Names listed are in order of arrival at camp to show that one week is no better than another. Hunter success depends more on weather and the hunter's physical conditioning than anything else. We do much better when weather is clear and cool and when the hunter is in good shape.
Archery Elk Hunt 2007: We had many opportunities and hunters in good condition with good abilities. However, getting in the right place at the right time, with the wind in your face and quiet conditions is tough. All of our hunters had good action with bugling bulls every day. John Brown, Oakland, MI 586-206-2137 Ken Davis, Davison, MI 810-653-8555 “What a trip! …The ones we saw were nice; 6 point and up…Horses A+, Guide A+, Cook A+, Wrangler A+. These mountains will humble you.” John and Ken were into bugling bulls every day but just didn’t get close enough for a shot. Lance Mousel Bend, OR 541-722-8839 “AA Rating! Use me for a good reference!” Got into a lot of bugling bulls. Had one shot at 50 yards but missed. Saw a bear. “Grant was a pleasure to hunt with.”
We had some good bucks killed and some great bucks killed and a few good/great bucks seen but not killed. A very good year for deer hunting but what is encouraging is that we saw a LOT of good average bucks, and some whoppers that got away, which will be our trophy crop next year. Pat Minnite, Vienna, WV 304-295-3142. Saw several bucks but didn’t have the opportunity for the right one. John Goots, Vienna, WV 304-295-6279 “I had a great hunt! The whole outfit was very professional and friendly.” Passed up a 30 inch 3 pointer on his 50th birthday (John’s 50th, not the buck’s). Killed a big heavy 26 inch buck with a nice 330 yard shot! Jason Minnite, Vienna, WV 304-483-8803 On the last day of his hunt he killed a 4x5 “after stalking the big buck.” Killed the wrong one. pic pic Fred Fletcher, Jacksonville, FL 904-545-2259 Saw 17 bucks, including a couple of big 28 inchers. Killed a “3x4”. Jason “Borough” Harper, McHenry, MD 301-387-2247 Killed a nice 4x5 buck on the first day of his hunt. Bob & Kathy Neunzig, Dallas, NC 704-922-9069. Bob saw several deer but nothing he cared to shoot. And Kathy enjoyed our camp as a non-hunter, Craig & Dillon Holworthy, 559-562-1211 Eighteen year old Dillon got his first mule deer! He made a fine running shot on a nice 26 inch buck! Late that afternoon, Craig killed a whopper of a buck! 34 inch spread, 10x12, official score 233 6/8. Incredible buck!! See the pics: pic pic pic pic pic pic pic pic Louis Skinner, Niceville, FL 850-897-4373 “I shot a 25 inch 5x5 buck at 300 yards. I was proud of the buck. My first muley.” Made a great shot on him and nailed him right in the boiler room! Unfortunately, it wasn’t the biggest buck in the bunch; Louis mistakenly killed a good buck instead of the big one. “I had a great hunt and enjoyed everyone at the camp. Great food and great camp!” pic Mike Rabbe, Anchorage, AK 402-958-0571 At first light we saw a whopper buck, real heavy and really high, 4 inches wider than his ears. A 30” by 30” buck! Unfortunately Mike didn’t have a solid rest and it wobbled, so we experienced the heartbreak of missing that once-in-a-lifetime buck at 293 yards. Mike hunted hard and saw one other really good buck but we didn’t get a shot at it in spite of climbing a serious mountain to get to him. He passed up several average bucks. Saw a total of 32 bucks. pic Jesse Hanson, Eldridge, IA 563-285-8524 “Thanks to all the Jackson Hole Outfitters crew!” Killed a nice buck on the second day. “Tough pack-out as deer was down deep and steep. Tom was an excellent guide.” pic Ricky Long, Burlington, IA 319-752-9482 “Thanks a lot for a great hunt. You have a real nice camp.” Killed a nice buck on the second day, his birthday (Ricky’s birthday, not the buck’s). Grant Allison, Bay City, TX 979-244-2519 At 8:30 AM they spotted a couple of really nice bucks way up at the base of some cliffs about a mile away and a mile up. Very long and hard stalk. Finally at 2 PM Grant shot this nice buck. This 27” wide 6x6 scored 186. Great buck!! Really hard job getting him back down to “flat” ground. “Great hunt”. pic pic David Huddleston, New Braunfels, TX 830-237-9195 Saw a bear. Saw about 25 bucks and a lot of elk. “I didn't get a buck. Grant kicked my butt heading up to “Humongous Peak” on the 1st day, but the experience of the entire week was totally and completely awesome. We were definitely in the right territory and with the right outfit. I would never hesitate to give an extremely positive recommendation about the experience available through your services. In fact, I have already given several. Robert Allison, New Braunfels, TX 830-935-2020 "I have to agree with David we were with the right outfitter. I have also told several others about your first rate operation and would love to come and hunt with all of you again. Although I did not shoot a buck I had plenty of opportunities and was just too picky I guess. However, several that we let walk will be monsters in the years to come. Richard Lewis, Richmond, TX 281-750-0353 Killed a really good 29 inch buck, dark horns. Larry Bright, Angelton, TX 979-849-6586. Saw several bucks. Two of those bucks were really but just wasn’t in the right place at the right time. Eugene Bradfute, Blanco, TX 830-833-0622 Eugene passed up a nice buck on the first day, electing to hold out for a big one. The evening of the second day, near sundown, they finally saw a couple of bucks and one looked pretty good, but narrow rack, in the dim light. A cheater point made him decide to take him. It turned out to be an incredibly massive 26 inch 8x10 buck. Guide Tom had been after that buck for three years and finally got him! Black-horned, massive whopper buck!! Congratulations! pic pic Mike Middaugh, Salinas, CA 831-484-9517 Made a great shot on a high-racked trophy buck on the fourth day of his hunt. Darn nice buck for his first mule deer. Pic He also saw a really heavy high 30 inch buck. Stalked it but couldn’t connect. pic Mike Regan, Santa Rosa, CA 707-546-4801 Shot twice at a big 28 inch buck at 150 yards. A couple of days later killed a whopper of a non-typical at 60 yards. This 9x9 buck was 31 1?2 inches wide and scored 209 7/8. pic pic pic pic Rich Kettlewell, Calistoga, CA 707-526-0515 Killed a tremendous 9x9 buck which scored 202 6/8. Guide Grant had seen that buck the day before and they went back and found it. Great stalk and great shot!! (note just to let you know about the wildlife in the area: In two days Rich saw 20 bucks, 3 moose, many elk, and two eagles). pic pic Rifle Elk Hunt: Very successful from the standpoint of bulls seen, stalked, shot at, and killed. Almost all of the hunters had a shot.

Shot my 4x4 at 7 AM the first day of my hunt. Great food, people, and guides.” John Boerschig, Katy TX 281-391-9252 Killed a nice 6 point bull with a good 200 yard shot. pic Lance Lemmons, Katy TX 281-391-9252 Made a great 270 yard shot on an elk across the canyon. We went over onto the timbered hillside. His first elk!! Clay Lemmons, Katy TX 281-391-9252 Clay passed up some cows and a spike, holding out for a nice bull this time. Just at dusk, within 5 minutes of camp, we jumped a big six point bull. He stood long enough for Clay to shoot, but moved just before Clay shot. A tough miss. [Jonesy note: We usually hunt our way down the mountain, planning on arriving at camp or at the truck at last shooting light. We don’t like to ride past the bulls in the dark, and this was a prime example of why we don’t sit up on the mountain until dark and then ride down.] pic Tom Roland, Norfolk VA 757-466-8800. Killed a nice six point bull on the second day hunt. That was the first he saw. Ed Heyman, Calistoga CA 707-226-2666. Passed up five spike bulls looking for a big one. Joe Jr.; “Altogether a fantastic experience for a first elk hunt; the country, the elk, the guides; everything was exceptional.” From Joe Sr.; “Beautiful country and nice people. I enjoyed the hunt almost as much as my camera safari in Africa. Maybe I will have a chance to bring my wife here for a summer horseback riding adventure. Thanks to all at the camp.” pic Phil and Jason Garner: Vallejo CA 707-552-1169, Jason made a great shot on a 4 point bull. “Great hunt with a great couple of guys who have hunted with us many times before.” Phil missed a bull on the fourth day of the hunt. pic pic Linda and Ken Mueller and non-hunting Kenneth Mueller Seguine TX. 830-379-6155.
