The Greys River is not in the wolf recovery area so we have plenty of moose and they are a good representation of the Shiras Moose in size. We see moose almost every day while hunting mule deer and elk, so when a hunter successfully draws a moose license we get pretty excited because we know there are some trophies in our area. You will probably need 8 preference points to draw this area but it is worth the wait.
The moose hunting season on the Greys River is from September 15th through October 31st, making scheduling of this hunt very flexible. Our moose season is also at the same time as our mule deer and elk seasons, so a combo hunt is also an option. Moose range from right at the Greys River to mid-way up the mountains, making this less physically demanding than our mule deer and elk hunts.
Jackson Hole Outfitters has a good tough string of horses to get us in and your trophy moose back, so we suggest that you try to find a stable and do some riding before you arrive for your hunt. A personal exercise program is also a good idea — this will help you with the terrain. Because of the terrain where we find moose, the shots are shorter but you still need to be able to shoot from 200 to 300 yards and from different positions. This is a great hunt and Jackson Hole Outfitters, with its experienced and safe staff, is here to make it a successful and fun adventure for you.
