We are southwest of JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING on the Greys River. We either ride out of camp or load our horses into a trailer and take a short drive to one of 17 different trail heads, depending on where the guide plans to hunt that day, and we try to have only 6 to 8 hunters in camp at a time to maintain a quality hunt. Typically we will leave camp before daylight and return after dark, hunting hard all day with a combination of glassing, sneaking ridges or timber, riding horses through prime country, or making drives.
The weather can and will have a profound effect on your hunting experience; sometimes in a positive manner sometimes in a negative manner. During the fall weather in Wyoming can change from 80 degrees during the day to freezing at night. One of the main factors on this hunt is visibility. In the morning there may be heavy fog and cloud cover in the high country where we hunt mule deer, but it may clear out in the afternoon. SNS Outfitters and Jackson Hole Outfitters will hunt in bad weather, but safety and trail conditions will be deciding factors before we leave camp. The weather during September and October can be wet and snowy or very warm and dry. Dressing in layers and good rain gear is very important for these hunts. Prior to your hunt check the weather at www.weather.com. Checking out the long range forecast will help you prepare for your hunt. No extra days will be awarded or refunds given to lost hunting opportunity or season closures. Any additional cost for motels, meals, etc. under these circumstances is not the responsibility of SNS Outfitters or Jackson Hole Outfitters.
Plan on arriving midday the day before your hunt start date. This gives us time to get you to camp, sight in your rifle and get relaxed and ready to start your hunt. Fly into Jackson Hole, WY and rent a vehicle and drive to camp. A map will be mailed to you in August.
On camp hunts we furnish everything but the licenses, personal gear, gun, ammo, gratuities and sleeping bag. If you are staying at the Box Y sleeping bags are not needed. Our full time cooks prepare home style meals in large enough quantities to satisfy any appetite. These hunts take place from our very comfortable tent camp on the Greys River. Husband and wife combinations are provided with their own sleeping accommodations. Alcoholic beverages are allowed in camp, and can be purchased by the hunters prior to departure to camp. Hunters return to camp on the night of the last day of their hunt and leave in the morning following the last day of their hunt. A full equipment list will be sent to you after your hunt is booked.
These hunts are conducted in National Forest on horseback and foot. For mule deer the day usually starts with a 2-hour horseback ride up very steep terrain. To close the gap on your trophy hiking up and down very steep country is required. For elk and moose hunts we do not travel up the mountains as far, so the horseback ride is shorter and although not as steep, hiking in mountainous terrain is still required. It is recommended that you spend some time riding and start some kind of a P.E. program before arriving on this hunt.
