Questions and Answers

Our hunting camp is located amidst the rugged beauty of the Wyoming Range and is operated under permit by the Greys River Ranger District, Bridger-Teton National Forest.  This is spectacular hunting country with high timberline basins, deep dark forest, and plenty of open hillsides and meadows for great hunting and a choice experience.  Camp elevation is about 7,000 feet and some of the best hunting is a tough climb by horseback to the 10,000 foot peaks rimming the camp.  For an area to consistently produce trophies it has to have lots of rugged country for the animals to hide in, so they can grow old and big. You need a top-notch outfitter and a good stout horse to get you into that great hunting country. Only then do you have a fighting chance at a truly big buck or bull.
We drive to my camp in a vehicle and then hunt on horseback from there.  Five horse trails leave directly from the camp and we have another twelve horse trails that we access by putting the horses in a horse trailer and taking them from 2 to 12 miles on a dirt road.  Our Forest Service permitted hunting area is 20 miles long and 15 miles wide.  That is one key to our success; we have a huge area to hunt and the ability to hunt all of it.  A lot of guys think a pack-in camp has better hunting, but reality is that with a pack-in camp you are limited to a horseback ride distance to hunt each day.  As the season progresses the animals are driven further and further from camp and the small area gets over-hunted.  We'll match our hunter success in seeing and killing trophy animals with any camp in the state of Wyoming.
We are out before daylight each morning and return at dark, hunting hard all day with a combination of spot-and-stalk, glassing, sneaking bedding areas, making drives, and working hard for you all day. We believe that if you are in great trophy country you must spend as much time in the field as possible to let "luck" help you find that buck or bull of a lifetime.

Actually, getting a 30 inch buck or a 6 point bull is really very simple. All you have to do is be in the right place at the right time, and shoot straight.
Our job is to help you be in the right place at the right time. Your job is to shoot straight.

We assign a guide to each two hunters.  Almost all of the hunters get some personal attention from Outfitter Jonesy and they get to walk behind me with a loaded gun to remind me what I told them on the phone.  I try and apply The Golden Rule to outfitting; I treat every hunter like I would want to be treated on a guided hunt.  I believe in hunting at a pace that is comfortable to you.  My guides and I will HELP YOU hunt, rather than show you how well we can hunt  Typically 90% of my hunters will get a shot at an average sized buck or bull, 40% of them will see a real trophy rack, one they would like to hang on the wall.

Rifle caliber is not that important-- shooting straight is!.  A .270 shooting 130 grain bullets is an all around great weapon!  For the best all-round accuracy I recommend rifles sighted in 3 inches high at 100 yards.  Know where your gun shoots at each range out to 500 yards.
Non-residents need to apply for a license in January.  The elk drawing is the end of February, the deer drawing is in early July.  Odds on drawing vary, but are generally about 50-80% for elk, 40-70% for deer.
A complete REFERENCE LIST/SUCCESS REPORT of every hunter who hunted with me during the past 11 years is available by clicking on the Success Reports button above or the link below.  I urge you to call those who didn't score, as well as the ones who killed the record book heads.
Business References: Forest Service (307)886-3166; local Game Warden (307)886-3717; Wyoming Outfitters and Guides Association (307)265-2376.  I'd refer you to the Jackson Hole Outfitters and Guides Association, but I'm the (past) President so I might be biased as a character reference.

"Come and join us for a great hunt in Wyoming!!"                     Jonesy
