Jackson Hole Outfitters
In keeping with my policy of a complete reference list of all
hunters who hunt with me each year, listed below
are the 1995 hunters, along with a brief report on their success.
This will enable you, the prospective hunter, to
get a feel for how the hunt went, and you can call unsuccessful
hunters as well as those who killed the big ones.
(Listed in order of their arrival at camp, showing you that
one week is as good as another)
ANTELOPE: A good hunt. More of you should apply for a permit.
Always 100% shooting, some big bucks on
private land. Call for details.

within 40-50 yards. Couldn't get off a shot.
Darrell Johnson, Gig Harbor, Wa (206)858-7696 Maury bugled a
monster trophy bull within 20 yards broadside.
When Darrell drew, his cam on his compound bow snagged on a
twig, causing premature release of his arrow. A
real heartbreaker. Lots of other bulls bugled, but too far.
Dave Johnson, Port Orchard, Wa (206)674-3446 Shot at a 5X5 but
missed. Got close to several other bulls, but
couldn't get a shot.
MULE DEER: We saw lots of big bucks, many of them exceptional
trophies. We saw, shot at, and killed more
whopper bucks than ever, although deer numbers are down. The
big boys are still there if you know where to
look. We left at least 6 great 30 inch bucks for you guys for
next year.
Darrell Johnson, Gig Harbor, Wa (206)858-7696 Killed a huge

big trophy buck. Saw some others but did not get
one.

a day or two. Mostly helped us with drop
camps and other chores.
Al Baldwin, San Rafael, Ca (415)479-3151 Al & Chuck had
a tough hunt. They stalked two trophy bucks,
passed a 24" looking for the monster
Chuck Jacobsen, Montague, Ca (916)938-2577 buck that was there.
No luck. They were on a parallel trail when
Melanie killed her big buck. They just seemed to be in the right
place at the wrong time consistently. They tried
hard, even stayed out overnight in a snow storm, but.....
Gene Meschi, Boulder Creek, Ca (408)338-6635 Easy shot at a
27" buck. No blood. Didn't seem to be hit. We
found it two weeks later.
Bob Tomlin, Petaluma, Ca (707)769-0322 Passed up a 25" buck.
Saw lots of deer but didn't take a shot.
Steve Wignall, Lafayette, Ca (510)887-4036 Killed a beautiful
28" non-typical buck.
Steve Lombardi Sr, Mill Valley, Ca (415)771-0600 Shot several
times at two whopper 30" bucks. 400-500
yards. Just couldn't hit them.

high-racked 28" buck on his last
day.
Steve Lombardi Jr, Mill Valley, Ca (415)389-1711 Several long
shots at a huge 30" buck, massive beams. Then
a couple of shots at another monster 30 inch buck a few minutes
later. Scope fogged; tough to see well enough
to get a good shot.
Melanie Barton, Oakdale, Ca (209)847-8287 Shot five times at
a potential new world-record buck at 300 yards.
31 inch spread, 36 inch high rack. (we saw the buck again during
elk season) Some over-hanging limbs may
have been intercepting her bullets. Ten minutes later she killed
a monster 34 inch 8X7 with massive tines. One
of the biggest mule deer bucks ever killed. Look for articles
about this buck in Peterson's Hunting Magazine
and the Mule Deer Foundation magazine.
Erik Rosengren, Snyder, NY (716)839-0660 Passed up 25" buck.
Killed 27" non-typical trophy buck. Heavy

buck. 23" wide, 25" high. Heavy beams. Not
wide, but massive rack.

heavy-horned buck. Bad luck prevented the kill.

trophy buck. Then gun jammed.
Ray Hansen, Spearfish, SD (605)642-5295 Only hunted one day.
Really bad back. Killed a big buck with me
last year. Booked for next year.
ELK HUNT; Some days great hunting, other days tough. We killed
some dandy bulls, missed some others. We
have an excellent elk herd with a number of real trophy bulls.
Of course, small bulls outnumber the big ones, but
the big ones are there for the dedicated hunter!
Mark Grisedale, Bakersfield, Ca (415)598-9813 Before starting
his elk hunt, Mark rented my horses and
truck, went to another area and killed a heavy-horned 24 inch
trophy muley. Then he killed a really big 6X5
trophy bull elk on opening day with Mike and I guiding him.
Darrell Johnson, Gig Harbor, Wa (206)858-7696 Killed a weird-racked
7X7 bull on opening day. Antlers had
curly tines. A perm? Saw a monster 6X6 while packing out his
bull. Heavy, long, ivory-tipped tines. 100 yards,
posing for a shot. Sorry, tag was filled! Drool, drool!
Benny Leonardo, Frankfort, IL (708)481-5800 Hunted only a half
day because of severe illness. Saw 2 bulls,
one of them 7X7.
Paul Bayne, Thayne, Wy (no phone) Killed a really nice 6X6 on
opening day. Saw a huge bull (B&C 350) at 100
yards but had filled his tag.
Doc Watson, Victorville, Ca (619)241-4753 Unguided hunt. Saw
a number of elk but didn't get a shot.
Jed Francis, Bakersfield, Ca (805)631-7116 Shot at some big
bulls just after daylight, then killed a really big
7X7 just before dark in the bottom of a bottomless canyon. While
hiking out in the dark, Jed and I were
accosted by two large mean animals (sasquatch?) that obviously
wanted to kill us, popping their jaws and deep
growling. (grizzlies? in an area where there are none?) Not
being armed, we backed off and saved our skins.
Dave Nenichka, Swoyersville, Pa (717)287-4530 Saw 5 point bull
the first day. Had tough luck after that. Tried
hard, but didn't get a shot.
Harold Rinko, Belle Mead, NJ (908)359-7128 Saw 150 elk in one
herd, 25 bulls. Missed 5 shots at a 7X7 bull at
125 yards. Too out of breath.
Mark Glover, Mesa, Az (602)835-0438 Shot at a nice 6X6 bull,
and almost got a shot at the whopper trophy bull
running with it.
Frank Rekuski, Roseville, Mn (612)482-8881 Passed up two 4X4
bulls and a spike. Took a tough shot at a 5X5.
Long shot. Missed.
Pete Teller, Novato, Ca (415)898-3772 Shot at a 5 point bull
at 100 yards. Appeared to be hit, but we couldn't
find blood.
Paul Masta, Walnut Creek, Ca (510)933-3612 Shot at a 6X6 just
after daylight the first day, then killed a 4X4
while trying to get the 6- point.
Jim McCombs, Concord, Ca (510)672-0941 Saw about 50 elk, but
didn't get a shot. He worked hard at it. Just in
the right place at wrong time.
Danny Webb, Kenova, WV (304)429-3908 Killed a 5X4 bull out of
a herd of 50 elk. Nasty place to kill it. Tough
packing job!
Jon Fenn, Jackson, Wy Saw a number of elk on his three day hunt
but didn't get a shot at a bull.
MOOSE HUNT: Tough to draw a tag, but we have some great trophy
moose.
Mike Grisedale, Bakersfield, Ca (805)399-4490 Passed up three
small bulls. Killed a dandy trophy moose, good
palms, good shovels.
IDAHO ELK HUNT. Although severe weather dampened the hunt it
didn't dampen our spirits. A great bunch of
guys. We had a good time, had a lot of fun, saw a lot of elk,
and even killed a couple. Would have killed three,
except Dave forgot to remove his scope covers. He thought it
was just the usual fog, snow, and dim light
preventing him from seeing that bull through the scope. A great
hunt in a rugged remote area. Because the
planes couldn't fly in that weather, Dave & Pete rode horses
28 miles out with us to take them to the truck.
Severe rain, snow, & fog all the way.
Mike Zeto, Las Vegas, NV (702)256-6941 Saw a number of elk but
couldn't grow horns on them. Only hunted
three days.
Phil Kerr, Oroville, Ca (916)589-4457 Saw bunches of elk, including
a herd of 100. Couldn't get close to the
bulls.
Brian Guhl, Aurora, Co (303)699-5354 Brian missed an easy 100
yard shot at a small 5-pointer. Said he didn't
want it anyway, too small and too easy to pack out. He killed
a big 5X5 (actually 6X6, it had two extra points on
the brow tines) off the back side of Elkhorn Creek. I don't
even look for elk back there, cause you can't pack
'em out, but we did-on our backs. Brian was in superb physical
shape and it paid off. Fun guy to hunt with.
Dave Carothers, Moorepark, Ca (805)532-9277 Dave still hasn't
got a bull. We tried hard, and he did shoot
twice trying to help Pete anchor his bull, but... Of course,
Dave would have had a nice bull if he had remembered
to remove his scope covers. We ribbed him about that all week.
Gary Burger, Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca (310)833-4719 Only hunted
three days. Saw a number of elk, but no
horns.
Pete Jensen, Nampa, Id (208)466-2194 Finally killed his first
elk! On the last day, beautiful shot, 4X4. Way to
hang in there!
ARIZONA COUES DEER HUNT; The hunt hasn't taken place as of the
printing date for this Success Report.
Usually 100% success on this hunt in a rugged remote area. No
hunting pressure. Fascinating country, beautiful
deer, great place to be in December
