Year 2001 SUCCESS REPORT AND  REFERENCE LIST

Jackson Hole Outfitters

 email

Each year I provide a complete success report of every hunter who hunted with me so that you can call the unsuccessful ones as well as the ones who got a big one.  Names are listed in order of arrival at camp.  When you call them, please be brief to respect their privacy. Guides names in italics: Grant, Sparky, Tom, Brian, Aaron, and Jerry.  All scorable points are counted, so a 4x4 buck with brow tines is a 5x5.
Moose HunterKen Brown, CA (209)295-8605 Killed a very nice 40 inch bull moose with long front tines and a big bell (flap of skin, like a turkey beard).  Perfect shot from his .270.  Guide Aaron and I tried to talk him into waiting for a 50 incher. “I want that one!”  KA-BOOM!
Rifle Deer Hunters Really hot bone-dry weather except for the last 3 days of deer season. 85 degrees the first week of October.  Some of the deer hunters saw some WHOPPER bull elk and are applying next year for elk.
Shannon Williams,  CA  (707)485-0109   Passed up a good 25 inch heavy-horned buck on the first day.  Hunted very hard but didn’t find the big one he was after.  Sparky guide
Brett Ingram, CA (707)485-7783 Passed up some smaller bucks, then killed a whopper 31 ½ inch buck in the timber.  Redeemed himself for blowing a shot at a huge non-typical because his scope was on 18 power two years ago. Sparky guide
Brian Ingram,  CA (707)485-7403  Brian hunted hard, passed some decent bucks but didn’t find the big one.  The last day he worked hard at it until just about dark, saying “It’s not over until the fat lady sings.”  Finally, just at dark Jonesy played fat lady and sang “God Bless America” in his best Kate Smith fat lady style.  Brian about fell off his horse laughing.  30 seconds later we saw a buck, unfortunately another small one.  Grant guide
Brad Ingram,  CA (707)485-7880 Killed a massive 24 inch high-horned buck on the last day on a snap shot while sneaking the timber.  Buck held tight until he almost stepped on it.  Old buck, going downhill.  Grant guide
Jim Coffrini, CA (916)941-9891 Killed a 27 inch buck on a great running shot. “Great hunt, great camp, great guide.  You run a first class camp with great attention to detail.”  Tom
Matt Sweitzer,  CA (916)939-3892  Killed a heavy-horned 24 inch 5x5, on a great running shot.  Passed up several other bucks.   “Thank you for a great hunt and good company. You have a great operation and excellent people including guides, cooks, and wrangler.  Tom did a wonderful job as a guide and very pleasant to be around.”
Ken Brown, CA (209)295-8605  Killed a tremendous 30 ½  inch 6x6 buck that scored 202 SCI (which is B&C Gross).  Great buck! Killed it from the horse trail.  Brian guide.
Craig Holworthy, CA (559)562-1211  Craig first hunted with me in 1985, making him the “old timer” of the camp.  He saw 29 bucks total. The second day passed up a heavy 26”, then passed up a 30” buck to kill the massive 26 incher that was running with him.  I’m pretty sure this buck was the same one I called the “magazine cover buck” last year, that we missed within 300 yards of the same place and near identical antler configuration.  Absolutely tremendous buck!!  Brian guide.
Darin Kerr, Idaho (208)354-8683  Killed a tremendous 28 inch buck on the last hour of the last day of his hunt.  Score 197 7/8.
Greer Jones,  ID (208)354-8592  Killed a beautiful 25 inch buck on the first day of his hunt, a snap shot at the running buck in the timber.
Blaine Matthews, AZ (480)396-9386 Passed some average bucks.  Hunted hard but didn’t find the buck he wanted.
John Massucco, CA (858)481-0435  Hunted hard but didn’t find that big buck.  Only hunted 3 days, health reasons.  Sparky
Bruce Duncan,  WA (509)892-3414  Killed a 27 inch buck on Maniac Mountain.  The innocent bystander buck made the mistake of running through the trees as we were following up on a huge 32 inch buck that Jonesy walked right up on while pushing timber for Bruce.  Bruce saw horns and fired, killing the wrong buck.  Grant guide.
Alan Zeutschel, WA  (509)922-3392  Killed a great buck on the last day of his hunt.  Spot and stalk.  28 inches, 6x5, score about 180.  Grant guide.
Eugene Kenedy, ID (208)846-8522  Saw 75 bucks, passed a lot of average ones.  Didn’t get the big one.  “Great hunt, Tom was a great guide.”
Roger Sambueso, CA (559)645-1335  Saw over 70 bucks.  Killed a 28” 4x5 on the last day.  Roger and I (jonesy) were sneaking through the timber and spotted the bedded buck.  Tom guide
Kevin McDonnell,  CA (209)745-2744  Saw only 9 small bucks, “no keepers”.  Brian guide

Rodger Paige, CA (310)832-4420 Made a good stalk on some really big bucks, without success. “Even though I didn’t get a trophy, I consider this one of my best hunts ever!” Grant guide

Ernie Zierenberg VA (804)794-1961  Hunted hard and made the supreme effort. “Guide was Brian who gave his all to find bucks but they were scarce.”

Elk Hunt  Had a great season from the standpoint of huge bulls seen and some easy chances at them but they bore a charmed life. Killed some decent ones, but the whoppers got away.  Several of the elk hunters saw some huge 30+ inch bucks.  They are applying for deer for next year.  One guy swore that buck was as big as an elk.
Richard Bailey OK (580)332-6979 Saw several bulls. Hit a big 5 point bull, couldn’t find him.  Missed a 5 point bull at 40 yards.  Don’t know why, except maybe using a rifle he’s not familiar with.  He’s killed 113 deer with his .270, but brought his 30-06 for elk. “Tom has been a super guide. Very professional.”
Alan Smith, MO (417)588-2451 Saw several bulls, didn’t get close enough for a shot.  Killed a cow elk at 150 yards on the 3rd day. “Tom worked hard for us and did a great job.  He made my hunt very enjoyable.”

John Gray, Jr and son John Gray III, CA (530)898-0232  Son John killed a big 5 point bull on the third day.  Ran it down in the timber.  Dad John had a fairly easy shot at a spike, but his firing pin froze up and didn’t fire.  He also missed some long shots at a couple of bulls and was within 2 seconds of killing a bull at 35 yards.  The bull turned and went just as he brought his gun up.  Could have shot it in the rear, but wisely chose not to.  “Sparky is a great guide!”

Keith Brais,  FL (305)667-8668  Hit a huge 6 point bull, black horns - ivory tips, at 200 yards, couldn’t find it.  Killed a “branch bull” at 125 yards, then right after that a 4 point and a 5 pointer walked out.  Grant guide.
Bud Monnen, SC (864)287-2354  Passed up several small bulls, including a 4x4.  Had a big six-pointer broadside at 100 yards but couldn’t find it in his scope, as a small hump of sagebrush obscured it when he knelt for the shot.  Shot at a nice 5 pointer at 470 yards but missed.  Stalked within 30 yards of a huge black-horned-ivory-tipped bull, but he left 2 seconds before Bud could shoot.  “Incredible experience.”  Brian guide.
